Story lines: Both starting quarterbacks are expected to take difference-making steps up. After losing meekly in wild-card playoff games the last two years, the Bengals gave quarterback Andy Dalton more weapons to complement WR A.J. Green. Rookie Giovani Bernard is being counted on to give Cincinnati a much-needed explosive threat out of the backfield. For Chicago, QB Jay Cutler is hoping new coach Marc Trestman can work the same magic with him that Trestman did with QB Rich Gannon and Jake Plummer in previous NFL stops.
Need to know: The Bengals have won five of their last six road games vs. NFC teams and are 4-1 all time in Chicago. … Bears Pro Bowl CBs Charles Tillman and Tim Jennings are turnover-generating machines. Last season, Tillman led the league with 10 forced fumbles and Jennings was tops in the NFL with nine interceptions.
