Story lines: Despite tying for the NFL’s worst record (2-14) in 2012, the Chiefs and Jaguars are in different stages of their makeovers. New Kansas City coach Andy Reid has four Pro Bowlers on defense and acquired QB Alex Smith to feed two offensive stars who also have spent time in Hawaii, RB Jamaal Charles and WR Dwayne Bowe. The Jaguars seem to be shooting first for a culture change under new coach Gus Bradley. Figuring out whether third-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert can make it in the NFL is priority No. 1. Expect Jacksonville to run RB Maurice Jones-Drew into the ground since he’s in the final year of his contract.
Need to know: The top two picks in the draft, Eric Fisher (Chiefs) and Luke Joeckel (Jaguars), will start at right offensive tackle for their teams.
