North Salinas High alum Kassim Osgood joined the San Francisco 49ers earlier this summer hoping to make an impact with the NFC Champions.
On Thursday evening at Candlestick Park, he found a few moments to stand out. Osgood caught three passes for 34 yards in the 49ers’ 10-6 loss to the Denver Broncos. It was both teams’ preseason opener.
All three catches came in the first half, and his yardage led all receivers at the break.
Osgood was one of 11 49ers recievers to catch a pass in the exhibition contest, one of the final two to take place at Candlestick Park as the 49ers begin their “Farewell to Candlestick” season.
His longest reception, a 16-yard catch, came on the second of back-to-back receptions from backup quarterback Scott Tolzien. It helped set up a field goal attempt that was missed.
Only two receivers had more receiving yards than Osgood in the game. Teammate Vance McDonald caught four passes for 66 yards to lead all receivers. Denver’s Julius Thomas had four catches for 35 yards.
Osgood is playing for his fourth different team in his career. He was previously with San Diego before going to Jacksonville and Detroit.
